Letter #68: Easter

Its already Easter… That’s crazy. It just came out of nowhere. Time really does fly so fast.

We had a bunch of little meetings this past week which made it go by faster than normal.

So on Wednesday we had an adventure into downtown LA. Elder Brock’s visa came in so we went to LA to the Spain Consulate. We were told we could just drive there so we got the directions and the day before we were going to leave we got a call saying we should get a member to take us. So we had to scramble around to try and find someone and we got A_________. He is such a solid recent convert and just dropped everything so he could take us in his van. We were reading him the directions and he told us he was going to take a short cut and just went in the complete opposite direction. He said if we would have followed the directions it would have taken us hours longer. We had a cool trip through downtown LA, and it really didn’t take as long as we thought. Only like 5 minutes in the actual building itself. Then on the way home the traffic on the freeway was pretty bad so he took us on the back roads. We went through the ghetto of south central LA and then through Compton. It was pretty fun. A_________ is one of my favorite people ever.

Then we have had a lot of success teaching and helping our investigators to really progress. Israel is our most solid investigator and he should be baptized in a couple weeks. He is mostly blind but can see just a little bit (at least well enough to go ride a bike on a busy street… haha. But he is super humble and we were teaching him a bunch of commandments this week. When we taught the word of wisdom he had a cup of coffee but you could tell he felt bad and put it to the side. He just wants to do good. I have learned so much from him and his optimistic attitude.

We were working with K_______ a lot. She has a ton of questions and really wants to know more about our religion. It is tough because she goes to a Baptist school in Anaheim which is like 45min away that is just 40 kids. She is super close with everyone there and they are all pretty religious. We invited her to get baptized and she is praying this week for an answer. So keep her in your prayers!!!

We than had an interesting experience where we had a long day that we dedicated to finding new investigators. People that day must have been in a rough mood because no one wanted to talk to us. But we kept on working. Than our car stopped working and wouldn’t let us sign in. (it has these boxes that track speed and stuff that we have to sign into or it won’t let us drive.) So we were stuck to walking the rest of the night. But we were able to find this 27 yr old lady who had a flat tire so we helped her change it (which took like an hour and a half because it was stuck) but she was super appreciative and her dad came to help and we had a good conversation with him. They both said they would let us come over to teach them a bit more about our religion since we helped them out. They were really nice and actually from Nigeria.

As long as we keep going and don’t give up, that is all God requires of us. It may be hard at times but he will provide a way. He will give us opportunities to serve and help others as long as we just keep going. Go when we don’t want to go, when our body tells us we should just rest and take a break, just keep pushing. That is when you see the hand of the lord more abundantly. It truly is amazing.

Easter Sunday was amazing. Church was fantastic full of hymns. We sang like 7 hymns as a congregation. But it was really cool. Than for dinner it was the birthday for a sister in the ward and she invited us over and we had these tortas from Honduras which were good and then she brought out carne asada and we had tacos that were out of this world. Then she had a tres leches cake that was pretty good. We were stuffed out of our minds. Way too much foood…. haha

I love all of you and hope you have a great week!
