This week has been a blast. I have been having so much fun just getting back to work and in the groove of things. We have had a bunch of crazy things happen to us.
I am going to start off by telling a story. A couple days ago it was around 6 o’clock and Elder Rodriguez and I were going to a couple of set appointments that we had in this huge Hispanic complex. It is pretty much Mini-México. Almost all of the people who live there are Hispanic and they have this big catholic shrine in the middle of the place. We went to the lesson and it fell through. and our back up plan, also fell through. So we were going to knock some doors. As we are doing so there was a bunch of kids that came up to us and asked us for pass-along cards. We then asked them if they could take us to someone who we could teach. Somebody who needs Jesus. They take off running and we follow behind them. They take us to these guys who are barbecuing. It was like 4 Mexican guys drinking. The kids point at them and then run off. So we go up and start talking to these guys. One of them is just drunk out of his mind starts like swearing at us and telling us he is Catholic but then two of the other guys ask us if they could have one of our pamphlets.
We continue to talk to those two guys and they both were pretty cool. They got us plates of food and it was all covered in spicy salsa. We were eating and talking to them until one of them gets two of these little chili peppers. They are called Chili de Arbol and are tiny like a centimeter long and reddish-orange.
They keep telling us to eat them. I then turn to one of the guys and said “if I eat this will you let us come back to your house to teach you and you family about what we believe.” He agreed. So I grab the pepper and eat it whole. They all start freaking out because they didn’t think I would actually do it and you are supposed to eat it with the food so it doesn’t burn as bad. Then I had the most uncomfortable ten minutes of my life. I start to sweat…. bad. like dripping off the face bad. I get these weird burp-hiccups that were just uncontrollable. I felt like I had a fire in my mouth. And when a fire starts to burn, and it starts to spread, you just cant think straight. They kept offering me Beer but we kept saying no we don’t drink and eventually a lady comes out of an apartment with a Coca-Cola. And I chugged it so fast…. To fast. I started getting queasy so we bounced. We got out of there super fast. But we got a return appointment from that one guy. I then proceeded to spend a good portion of the rest of the night in the bathroom. I was literally dying.
Moral of the story… You have to put your body on the line to find people to teach. 🙂
Other than that I did exchanges with Elder Delgado who is from Orem as well. We worked super hard and had a lot of fun.
We are teaching this really cool part-member family. D______ (member) and H_____ (devout Christian) and we have had some really good lessons with them. The only problem is they are both very active in a Christian church. so active that they go 5 days a week. RIDICULOUS! They probably have the cutest son ever. D_____ who is like 5 or 6 years old and just adorable.
We have been working really hard to find new people, and not just people who will listen because they are nice but we are trying to find those people who are truly seeking the gospel. Those who have been prepared for us to find and teach.
Man… I just love being a missionary. Just trying to soak up as much as I can for the short time that I have left. To work hard and study hard and just grow my testimony and help others grow theirs. I am trying to let the Lord change and shape me as much as possible in these last few months.
I love this Gospel and I love all of you!
