Letter #46: Smile!

So this week was a great week!

I am not sure if I have already mentioned it but as a mission we are reading the Book of Mormon by the end of the year (we started at the beginning of Oct) but we are specifically looking for Christlike attributes. Some people are focusing on just one attribute and some people are switching every week or month. I have been focusing on Humility, and it has been an awesome experience. I have taken a fresh copy of the Book of Mormon and I am marking all the things related to Humility in one color and all the things related to Pride in a different color. It is really cool to see the contrast and the different cycles and patterns. A really good talk that has helped me in my study is a talk by Ezra Taft Benson called Beware of Pride. It is really good and has taught me a lot. It is pretty awesome.

This week was fun. We started out with exchanges and I was with a guy named Elder Redd (an English missionary) who is from Spanish Fark. He has such a great accent. haha. And when we were together we went and taught a really cool lesson to A___________ one of our investigators who is living with our recent convert. He is from Venezuela. He is really funny though and really really Christian. He totally touched my arm multiple times during the lesson which was a tad bit uncomfortable haha. He is fun to teach though. But something really cool happened at the lesson. So he lives in an apartment that is pretty close to the beach with A_________ our recent convert, this return missionary, and this other member. All from Venezuela. So the other guy moved out and their new roommate is this guy from Illinois who is out here working. It is really cool because he kinda sat down and talked to us. He is kinda just glad to talk in English to us because he is learning Spanish because they all speak Spanish as a first language in the apartment. But he was pretty cool, he was raised Baptist and likes the bible. But we gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon and answered some random questions and he said he wanted us to come back. Then at like 1:00 in the morning we receive like an 8-part text from this guy saying that he has read up to 1 Nephi 13 and he loves it and wants to know more and how he feels like it is missing chapters to the bible that are lost. He said he believes it to be the word of God and wanted us to come over ASAP. Pretty crazy. He is soooooo solid. But since the lesson was in English and he is like 25 we passed him off to the YSA Elders. Apparently he is just golden. He wants to meet everyday. Is trying to get work off on Sundays so he can come to Church, and is probably going to get baptized soon. Super cool experience to be a part of, kinda sad that I don’t get to teach him but that’s all right.

We taught J______ and X______ again. They are super dope!!!! They are really cool and willing to listen and to read and learn more. I feel like if we teach them we can hopefully start teaching there kids and get all of them coming to church. It is really awesome to be teaching a family.

A_________ came back from Mexico and we saw him and he is really cool. He came to church on Sunday which was sweet, and some of the members invited him to sit with them and greeted him, and he loves it. He says he really feels the love of God when he comes to church.

We started teaching J_______ a kid who just got out of prison. He is 20 years old but flagged us down and gave us some food and we taught him about the Plan of Salvation and he seemed to love it. He is a really cool guy and said he wants to come to church but works…. argh! Why do people have jobs? people should just stop working lol..

We started to teach this two kids named W_________ (13) and L______(9). They were being taught by the English elders but the parents speak no English. So they gave them to us and they are really cool and want to be baptized but their parents don’t really want to talk to us and won’t take them to church. So we are going to try and see if we could sit down and talk with the parents and see what we could do.

I love this area and all the investigators that we are teaching and working with. I am going to be sad one day when they force me to leave…

Then on Sunday. In all three of the wards we went to it was the Primary program. It was a ton of primary songs and funny moments. But three sacrament meetings with three primary programs was a bit too much kid action for me for a couple weeks… wow haha. But yeah.

I am pumped for Halloween… CANDY!!!! But there is a rule in the mission that we can’t go out after 6:00 and we have to stay in our apartments and ‘clean’ haha. There are two other elders who live in the same complex as us (the apartment exactly over our heads) and we will probably chill with them. Apparently Halloween is pretty dangerous in some parts of the mission. But I am pretty much in the safest part so yeah no worries! 😉

I love all you guys and hope you have a great week.

Love,

Elder Bryce
