Letter #7: Week 2!

HEEEEYYYY!!!

It was so great to hear from you guys this week. It is too bad that you all are getting sick, I will be saying many prayers for you guys.

This week has been fun. It started off with my companion had to go to a leadership training so I went on splits with Elder Boyett who is a Cambodian speaking missionary. We went to the Cambodian Community Center, and he taught an English class while I taught a Citizenship class. It was such a cool experience, the people could barely speak any English but it was fun trying to communicate with them. Cambodian sounds super cool and they talk super fast. After we were done, a bunch of them came up and thanked me and gave me soooo much food, I got a bunch of raisins, a couple donuts, some chocolate and a couple other things. It was crazy. We then went and walked around Cambodia Town and went door to door, I didn’t really do much but it was an interesting experience. We then went to a members house and taught a lesson and then helped two girls with their school homework. I also got my Cambodian name, it is Molcoraa which means January.

We also had a meeting with Elder Ronald A Rasband from the Seventy. It was really cool. He is such a cool guy and taught so much. I even got to shake his hand. It was a sweet meeting.

I think this week it is finally hitting me that I am an actual missionary, for a while I would look around and when I saw another set of missionaries, I would think “HEY, ITS THE MISSIONARIES” but now I am like “Hey, I’m a Missionary” Which is pretty cool.

Talking to people on the street has been interesting. I have talked to so many strange people in the last couple days. Drunk people and Crazy people. My companion has said it is just this area in Long Beach, because he hasn’t seen this many crazy people in all of his mission.

The members in this branch are super cool, It is always cool talking to the kids/teenagers because they speak both English and Spanish so they help me out with different vocabulary. The food here the members serve here has been good so far, you guys would be proud at the amount of new food I have tried…  haha

So far, I love being out here, missionary work is tiring but it sure is worth it. I see the Lord’s influence in my life and how he is helping me, and he is helping me a lot, because without him, I could not do this on my own.

With love,

Elder Matthew Bryce
